Bay Flats Lodge on San Antonio Bay Report
By Captain Chris Martin

The lodge took a few days off for Labor Day giving our guides and staff well deserved time off. Trout action heated up over deep shell before the high winds started 3 to 4 days straight. Red fish was the main focus over the past few days, and several guides were able to limit out and release reds the remainder of the day. The winds have finally backed down, and we look forward to a busy week of fishing.

Our hearts are heavy for all the folks from Bastrop and Magnolia Texas who have lost their homes, livestock and property to these terrible wildfires.

Weather Forecast Port O’Connor / Seadrift
Areas of haze and smoke early in the morning. Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 90s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. 81 degree water temp, and 70% moon illuminated.

Bay Flats Lodge on San Antonio Bay Report

By Captain Chris Martin

Towards the end of last week the wind settled down, and the trout fishing picked up with limits to near limits. Red fish catching also picked up for several BFL Guides. The lodge wants to thank Bill T. for trusting us with your customers for the second time this summer. Most boats limited out on trout early over deep shell in SAB with live bait. It was also cool to see reds coming back to the boat on the same exact sets.

I want to thank Andy K. and Jeff K. for allowing BFL to host their company employee weekend fishing trip. The crew from the town of Brenham, Texas makes the best ice cream in the world, and they know how to fish. Saturday & Sunday were carbon copy days for deep shell trout action with limits to near limits. Congrats to Captain TJ Christensen for limiting out on trout & reds on Saturday. Good showing as well for Captains Harold, Jason, Nathan, Cooper and Steve.

Seadrift History
Please take a minute or two and watch the below video. A tribute to the WWII veterans and Mom’s who prayed together in a small church in Seadrift to keep all 52 sons alive during WWII. If you have other stories like this one, and want to share them in my next report, please email them to Chris@BayFlatsLodge.com

Just wanted to send a note of appreciation for our stay and fishing trip. The weather was a bit hotter than we had hope and the wind was not cooperative, but my son and I still managed to get our limit on redfish, including a couple of 27 3-4″ “tournament reds” that provided a couple of great fights. We really appreciated the efforts of the staff and the attention we got at Bay Flats and hopefully we will be able to make a return visit….After we got cleaned up we were not able to find our guide, so I left a tip for him upstairs with the staff that was preparing food for the next crew. I hope that this got to him as he worked pretty hard to get us on the fish. Many thanks for a great time. My son is already texting some of his friends back at Oregon State to show off the fish and to suggest that they make some time to come down to the gulf coast sometime…..He is also working on trying to duplicate the bacon wrapped shrimp with jalepeno jelly for his friends when he gets back (so additional thanks to Sherman for preparing those and tempting our taste buds…) Thanks for a memorable time, Dave McElhaney Katy, Tx

Late week the wind really started backing down allowing the BFL team to focus on real estate that we haven’t been able to fish. From ESB to Carols Bay area reefs are holding excellent trout action while using TTF and topwaters to live bait. Keying in on the windward side of the reef; especially where the reef “falls” has been the target to hit. Red fish action came apart at the reels this weekend. Wow is all about we can say. Our guests have been blessed with some awesome reel screaming fun. The mindset of our guides; pull off the trout early, and go fish for reds the remaining day. The lodge welcomed 28-guests in for 2-days on Sunday evening. We have great news about TTF Gun Dog Dummy Topwaters, check it out below.

TTF Gun Dog Dummy Topwaters

Good Day for TTF Gun Dog Baits!!!….Academy Sports + Outdoors will start stocking all 16 TTF Gun Dog Dummy Topwaters this October….Everyone head over to Academy this fall and pick up a Gun Dog…they come trained and ready to Hunt!!!!!

Monday’s Weather

Partly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy. Isolated showers. Isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 90s inland…in the lower 90s coast. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 20 percent. Water temps for San Antonio Bay 93 degrees. The moon is 29% illuminated.

I just wanted to let you know how much I love reading your emails. Every time I open one the endorphins kick in and I get a warm sensation remembering my BFL trips. Work has been too busy but I am trying to find a date to come down and recharge the batteries. As much as I love reading the fishing reports my mouth starts watering when I read about the cooking. Keep up the great work Chris. You have a very special place.
