Kyle, Texas Parks and Wildlife has some info about kayaking to the island. In fact, there is a “paddling trail”. Link to the TPWD map and info below. My wife and I have done it. It will take more than half a day. Be careful when kayaking as many fishing boats leave out of Port O’ Connor. You can get caught up in a lot of traffic and you could get hit with large wakes as inconsiderate boaters pass. Luckily when we went we didn’t have much traffic, but we did get beached once as a large boat wake carried us sideways. There are numerous places (beaches) to stop along the way if you needed a break.

Are there any public hunting lands in the vicinity of POC? Are there any beaches close to POC other than King Fisher Beach? I would like to have any hunting, fishing, or real estate information that you would be kind enough to send me.

I can’t seem to find out how to get a Limited public use permit. I want to camp and fish at the boat landing area and army hole.

Jay, there are several guides here that offer trips to island and also a lady has boats for rent–if you go to—portoconnorchamber.org—members—then on left go to guides and outfitters,one mans name is capt.henry—361-655-2939 and lady that rents boats is suzy–361-920-0822

My wife and I would be interested in visiting Matagorda Island in November. We have no boat and would be interested in contact and rates for a taxi to and from the Island.
